Chiropractic Care For The Athlete

The performance of the body during athletics is more dependent on the spine than any other part of the skeletal system. While throwing or kicking, for example, the arm or leg swings off the spine as their base. The muscles of the arms also depend on the flexibility and nerve control of the spine to move and contract properly.

The mechanical problems of the spine are very common even in pre-teenagers. Many of the injuries and problems with performance that athletes of all ages experience may be related to poor spinal function.

Allthe elite athletes use chiropractic care to maximize performance and to recover from injury more quickly. These athletes include and by no means are limited to: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Joe Montana, Barry Bonds, Jerry Rice, Trevor Hoffman, Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman, Roger Craig, John Smoltz, Steve Garvey, Evander Holyfield, Tiger Woods, Dan O’Brien, Joe Morgan, Wade Boggs, Ken Shamrock, and a lot more.

Pre-participation exams for sports should include spinal exams by a chiropractor. Recovery care from sports related injuries should also incorporate spinal evaluation if complete recovery is expected. Poor coordination of the spine with the rest of the body will hinder athletic performance.
