Meet the Doctor

 Meet Dr. Resendez

Dr. Resendez was born on October 01, 1967 in Chula Vista, California from his parents, Richard Resendez of San Bernardino, California and Emma Landazuri of Mexicali, Mexico. With the exception of spending three years in Galveston, Texas (1978-1980) and four years in San Jose, California (1989-1993) where he went to Chiropractic College he has lived his whole life in the South Bay area of San Diego.

At ten years old Dr. Resendez began to play Little League Baseball where he would eventually be inducted into the Little League Hall of Fame in Waco, Texas. Among some of his most memorable times as a Little Leaguer was on July 14, 1980 when he pitched a no-hitter in an All-Star game and on July 15, 1983 when he pitched a perfect game also during an All-Star affair. He would go on to play baseball at Castle Park High School (where he graduated in 1985) and both Grossmont College and Southwestern College (where he graduated in 1989 with an Associated Science degree in chemistry and an Associated Arts degree).

As you get to know Dr. Resendez you see he still has a deep love for Baseball and is a lifelong San Diego Padres fan that has had season tickets for the last five years. He accompanied the Padres in Atlanta for the League Championship Series and in New York for the World Series in 1998. One of his goals is to see all of the Major league ballparks. He recently (August 2000) drove 3500 miles to do an East Coast exploration of ballparks that took him from Philadelphia, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, New York, and Boston. He also squeezed in the Major League Baseball Hall on Fame in Cooperstown, New York and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, while on this East Coast expedition.

While attending college at Southwestern in 1987 as an engineering major, Dr. Resendez began to have doubts about his future as he noticed one of his instructors was over qualified for her position at the college. He asked her why she was teaching when she could be making substantially more money working as an engineer. Here she had a Masters degree in engineering from Stanford University and she’s teaching at Southwestern College. He will never forget her answer. She replied, “sure I make less money here, but I’m much happier. I am not one to sit at my desk all day and just do paperwork. Here I interact with people, get a week off for Easter, two weeks off Christmas and the whole summer off. I am much happier as a teacher for the balance it brings to my life.” Anyone who knows Dr. Resendez will attest he loves interacting with others both young and old. It was at this point he started to have doubts about Engineering. As fate would have it while playing baseball at Grossmont College, Dr Resendez hurt his low back. At the recommendation of his father, Dr. Resendez went to see a chiropractor. Dr. Resendez was very impressed with the results and he decided to consider Chiropractic as a career.

In the fall of 1989 Dr. Resendez began his chiropractic education at the esteemed Palmer College of Chiropractic-West. While still in school in 1992, he did a six-month preceptorship in Watsonville, California and completed a postgraduate residency program at Palmer in 1993. On Halloween Day 1993 Dr. Resendez packed up his belongings in San Jose, California and headed back home to sunny San Diego.

From November 1993 until mid 1994 Dr. Resendez worked with Dr. David Libs in Pacific Beach. To this day Dr. Resendez and Dr. Libs are still good friends. During his time with Dr. Libs, Dr. Resendez received the vital help and tools necessary to open his own practice in South San Diego in May of 1994. To this day Dr. Resendez has maintained the same practice at the same location he opened in 1994. Also in 1994 Dr. Resendez completed a one year postgraduate course in Sports Chiropractic at Palmer and became a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician.

Dr. Resendez has made it his personal goal to help everyone through the gift of chiropractic that walks into his life/office regardless of condition or their financial ability to pay him. In 1993, 1994, 1997 and 1999 Dr. Resendez flew to the country of El Salvador with a group of other chiropractors and gave free chiropractic care to less- fortunate. During the week he was in El Salvador he would see between 1000 to 1500 patients. He has also gone to Tijuana and given free chiropractic care on several occasions. One of the things that separates Dr. Resendez from other chiropractors is that he is not only bi-lingual in Spanish but is also bi-cultural and truly understands the needs of his Latino patients.

In his spare time Dr. Resendez is very active and loves to play racquetball, softball, baseball, golf, roller blade and travel the world abroad. He is also a season ticket holder for both the San Diego Padres and Chargers. He bought his house in Bonita in 1997 and loves spending time there with his four dogs Ben, Jerri, Peetie, and Leftie.

Dr. Resendez loves going out and speaking of the benefits of chiropractic care and has given several lectures on the subject at mobile home parks, churches, retirement homes, high schools, and even Southwestern College.
